About the DEF

Background

In 2002 and 2003 ACFID held two watershed conferences at which member agencies shared case study material from their programs which they considered illustrated aspects of best practice in development. The conferences and further research generated an appreciation of the need for ongoing peer sharing. This led to the development of an NGO Effectiveness Framework comprising the standards of engagement applied to program work, program strategies, policies and principles.

The ACFID website was also identified as a suitable conduit for sharing quality and effectiveness (Q&E) resources and expertise, and so the Development Effectiveness Forum has been created to facilitate an open and valuable learning environment.

After considerable consultation with members the website was launched in February 2007. The site has had significant use since its launch and is continually expanding in both users and resources.

Site contents

The Development Effectiveness Forum comprises two main sections:
  • resource centre
  • help desk
Both sections utilise high quality human (expert development practitioners) and published (reports, evaluations, manuals, visual aids etc) resources in order to provide a valuable service to members.

This website is a work in progress and new resources are being sought constantly. In order to reflect the diversity of ACFID member interests, it is essential that agencies make regular contributions to this project. If you have resources you would like to share, please contact Alex Oates.
